fight!

When my parents had me and my siblings, they fought hard to put 'Malaysian' under the race column of our birth certificates. Being a product of a mixed marriage, it was unfair to categorize us under 1 race. I commend my parents for trying and when the time comes for me to register my babies, I will try to do the same. Even if it ain't a mixed marriage, I want my children to be known as Malaysians first.

My parents have told this story to many people. Friends and family. I never get tired of listening to it.

Lately though, I feel like I've lost the man who fought hard to make me Malaysian on my birth certificate. I feel like I don't know him anymore.
